Q&A- Body Position, Kicking, and Pull Buoys
I have a terrible time kicking when I swim. Should I keep working on it or is it ok to use a pool buoy between my legs?
Kicking should be more of a natural action rather than a forced one.
It should just happen versus trying to kick hard or kick at certain times.
If you’re always kicking hard, it’s probably a position issue.
If you can manage your position in the water better, there is less of a need to kick.
These exercises are effective at helping you learn to manage your position better.
Learn to feel the support of your lungs, then learn to leverage that support.
That should help you avoid needing to use a buoy all the time.
Using one infrequently isn’t a big deal, yet dependency is something you want to avoid.
If you ALWAYS race in a wetsuit, you might be able to get away with it, but you’ll STILL benefit from the exercises above.
IF you’re struggling with excessive kicking, it’s a POSITION issue.
Fix that and you’ll be on your way.
